2018 North State Modified Series Champion Kris Price
2018 North State Modified Series Champion Kris Price is heading to Kern County Raceway on June 27th, for the General Tire 60 presented by Performance Friction Brakes”. Price will make his second start at Kern County Raceway, after participating in the 2016 Winter Showdown. Price only completed 37 of 80 laps in that event, but the facility and competitors made a definite impression on the Rio Linda, CA driver.
“Kern is one of my favorite tracks”, Price told the Spears Modified Series. “I like to call it the Thunderdome lol. The high bank’s and long straightaway’s can be intimidating, if you’ve never been there, but I love it. It’s hard to be fast right off the trailer here, unlike most of the places we go. That says a lot about the SRL Mod’s and the quality of driver’s in the series. I think with the new rule’s package we should be able to run up front, as long as the car and driver do what they’re supposed to do. I obviously race to win, but if we can run in the top-five, at a track we never go to, that says a lot about our program as a whole. My Dad (Eric Sr.) and brother Eric Price build our own cars from the ground up, and I pay for everything myself, so I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without their help.”
This will be Price’s third start in SPEARS Modified Series competition. Both previous starts occurred at the season finale events at the LVMS Bullring and Dirt Track. He had twelfth and thirteenth place finishes in those two events in 2018 and 2017, respectively. In 2016 and ’17, Price had eight combined starts in the North State Challenge Series, while winning the Modified crown at Stockton 99 Speedway. He scored a win, four top-five and seven top-10’s in those starts, as a precursor to his 2018 championship season.
“In my third year ever in a racecar, I won the NSMS (North State Modified Series) Title in 2018, after deciding to run the full schedule for the first time. We won four out of nine races and lead over 500 of the 800 laps. We went back to back at the West Coast Modified Shootout, breaking the Track Record both times, and won the 2016 Modified Championship at The New Stockton 99 Speedway.”
In 2019, Price ran only one NSCS event, while participating in a limited schedule at ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY – ROSEVILLE CA. With his 2020 season finally getting underway, he is thankful to some special family members for their help with his program.
“Most of all I can’t thank my dad enough for all he’s done for my brother and I. He’s had his racing business (Price Racing) for nearly 30 years, and he’s been battling Leukemia for over 10 years. He definitely knows his stuff when it comes to building fast cars. My brother is my right-hand man, when it comes to the technical side of things, and when the three of us are firing on all cylinders, we are tough to beat.”
On Saturday June 27th, Kris will be looking for more success in his families Modified. The “General Tire 60 presented by Performance Friction Brakes is the third event on the series 2020 schedule. Jeremy Doss and Travis Thirkettle were the victors in the first two events. Both drivers are entered for this weekend’s tilt. For those unable to attend, the event will be live streamed on www.SpearsRacing.TV. MAVTV will air the event at a time to be announced later.
